Gilbert & George met at St Martins School of Art in 1967 and since then have given their ife to art and made themselves into 'living sculptures'. They have lived and worked together ever since in the East End of London. Gilbert & George have exhibited all over the world, in 1986 they won the Turner Prize and is 2005 they represented Britain at the Venice Biennale with their group of 'Ginkgo Pictures'. From 15th February until 7th of May 2007 Gilbert & George are having their first major retrospective at the Tate Modern in London. They are represented by www.whitecube.com
THE SINGING SCULPTURES is a documentary of Gilbert & George's ('The most beautiful, moving, original, fascinating and serious art-piece you have ever seen. It consists of two sculptures, one stick, one glove and one song.' -Gilbert & George, A Guide to Singing Sculptures, 1970.) singing sculptures works which they performed from 1969-1973 and again repeated in the Sonnabend Gallery in New York in 1991, a performance that influenced this book.
